Thanks to Curves, after seven years of infertility, I finally gave birth to a six pound twelve ounce baby girl, here is my Curves success story: My husband and I were married in 1999, and wanted to start a family as soon as possible, however it didn't happen. Ever since I was about thirteen years old, many doctors told me I would have a hard time conceiving, because I had a medical condition called Policystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). This condition caused me not to menstrate and no ovulation would occur each month because of my obesity. I didn't believe my weight was the problem so my husband and I went to an infertility specialist. The specialist confirmed that I had PCOS, but he said, "we can try some procedures and see what happens".
After failed attempts of artificial insemination, and lots of money for infertility drugs nothing happened. The doctor then told me that because of the PCOS, my eggs were too hard for the sperm to penetrate. I then gave up trying to conceive, and went through a lot of emotional stress and depression. The depression caused me to turn to eating junk food for comfort, but that just made me feel even worse. I hit rock bottom on my 25th birthday. I saw a picture of myself at 289 pounds, and decided to make a change in my life. I started Curves in November of 2003, and I liked it a lot, but then I visited the Curves facility on Flair drive. I liked this facility much better, we played games, had raffles, better support, it was closer to my house, so I transferred in March of 2004.
After attending Curves on Flair religiously and eating a healthier low carb diet for about a year, I lost 80 pounds and started getting a regular menstral cycle every month. After fourteen months of a regular menstral cycle I started having bad abdominal cramping, so I went to the urgent care clinic where I was given a pregnancy test. I was only a couple of days late, but it didn't even cross my mind that it could be positive. When the doctor entered the room, he asked me how many pregnancies I had had, and I said none. He then asked me how many misscarrages I had had, and said none, that's when he said "well you're pregnant now" . My husband and I were in great shock and began to cry. The doctor was concerned that I could be having an "ectopic pregnancy" when the embryo implants in the fallopian tube instead of the uterus, so the doctor referred me to a specialist. Three days later the specialist confirmed that the embryo had implanted in the uterus and was growing well. I was so relieved, but I was still scared of having a spontaneous misscarrage until I was four months along, and started experiencing morning sickness. The doctor put me on light duty at work, and I couldn"t work out at Curves, until the baby was born. I missed working out with my Curves buddies, and participating in all the Curves activities, but it was for the best.
On January 23rd 2006, I was admitted to the hospital to be induced, since I was four days overdue. After 24 hours in labor with no pain meds, and only one and a half centimeters dilated the doctor decided to give me a C-section. At 12:45pm on January 24th, 2006 my baby girl Anniesa Abigail Ojeda was born. She weighed 6lbs, 12oz., and was 18 inches long. I was finally blessed with a miracle that I had always dreamed about. Now I can hardly wait to go back to Curves and work off the extra forty pounds I gained by being spoiled during my pregnancy. On the first day I signed up for Curves, I was asked what my goal was, and I replied, "to lose weight and get pregnant", Well I guess I reached my goal. Thank you Curves staff for helping me make my dream of becoming a mommy come true. Love, Andrea Ojeda
